Città silenziose is a photographic and anthropological research project dedicated to monumental cemeteries — places as vast as cities, yet immersed in silence. Spaces built to endure, where time does not flow but layers upon itself, and memory becomes architecture. Through the exploration of various cemeteries in Italy and across Europe, the project investigates their urban, symbolic, and social dimensions: streets, monuments, sculptures, and traces that tell a collective story and reveal how societies confront death. In these places, absence generates presence, and silence becomes a condition for listening and awareness.

Città silenziose invites us to look at monumental cemeteries not as spaces of ending, but as living places of memory — capable of teaching slowness, fragility, and beauty. For even in mourning, a form of life can emerge, and in silence, a new way of seeing.
